Arecentsurveyofover16000’childrenmadebytheNationalChildDevelopmentStudyinLondonEnglandrevealedthatchildrenwhosefatherscametoschoolconferencesandaccompaniedtheirchildrenonoutingsdidmeasurablybetterinschoolthandidthosechildrenxhosefatherswerenotinvolvedintheseactivities.ThestudywhichmonitoredchildrenbornduringaweekMarch1958fromthetimeoftheirbirththroughtheyearsoftheirearlyschoolingfurtherrevealedthatthechildrenofactivelyinvolvedfathersscoredasmuchassevenmonthshigherinreadingandmathsthandidthosechildrenwhoseonlyinvolvedparentwasthemother.Thepurposeofthestudywastoevaluatetheroleplayedbyfathersintheraisingofachild.Itindicatedamuchhigherlevelofparentalinvolvementbythefatherthanhadbeenanticipated.Over66%ofthefathersweresaidtohaveplayedamajorroleinparentalresponsibility.
